This course provides an integrated foundation for designing and implementing outdoor and exhibition environments, complementing professional training in Technical Art (TechArt). It is designed to prepare students for the practical challenges they may encounter when developing and presenting interactive digital artworks in real-world exhibition spaces.
Students will gain hands-on experience in the complete process of building and deploying interactive installations, from hardware infrastructure to software systems. The curriculum covers electronics, circuit and signal fundamentals, low-frequency RF transmission system design, high-frequency signal analysis, AC/DC power distribution, multimedia mapping and control, and cloud-based information and data flow. Together, these topics provide the technical foundation required to design robust, reliable, and maintainable interactive device architectures.
Particular emphasis will be placed on power distribution, as electrical stability and safety are critical to almost every interactive installation. Students will learn how to plan and deploy AC/DC power systems appropriately for exhibition environments while considering system reliability, equipment protection, installation constraints, and on-site safety.
Beyond technical implementation, the course also addresses several essential but often underestimated aspects of exhibition production, including project management, artwork installation, system maintenance, construction-site coordination, and technical documentation. These skills are crucial for successfully bringing an artwork from initial development to final exhibition and long-term operation.
Throughout the course, students will gain practical experience creating and maintaining the documentation required during the early, middle, and final stages of a project. They will work with document templates and collaborative software to produce clear, professional, and continuously updated deliverables for artists, technical teams, contractors, exhibition organizers, and venue operators.
By the end of the course, students will have experience constructing interactive digital artworks from top to bottom—from electrical infrastructure and signal transmission to multimedia control and cloud-based information systems—while also developing the project management, installation, maintenance, and documentation skills required for professional exhibition design and implementation.
